My children stopped wanting to nap at around 4. But even after that, we set aside "quiet time." They dont have to take a nap, but they do have to spend an hour in their room, in their bed, doing something quiet, like reading a book or magazine. No games, just quiet time, to rest and let the mind wind down. It has worked wonders for the kids, as well as my sanity.

I dont think there is an age limit on napping. I still nap when my kids nap. LOL I do think 10 is old for an everyday nap. 4 or 5 is usually the age a child does not require a nap anymore. If the child sleeps well through the night and has a resonable bedtime they can usually go with out a nap.

What a smart lady! If I could get mine to lay down and shut up I'd be delighted. Some of mine quit taking daily naps at 2 or 3 years, but started napping again when the were in pre-school for 1/2 day. They usually nap when they are sick, too. Some of them sleep 8 hours a night and my 3 year old is an 11 hours a night kind of guy. I think I'll buy that one a pony! It varies from child to child, really. I think your mom is a genius.

There's no age too old to take naps. My five year old has a nap time at preschool (she just turned 5 in December). Often on the weekends we are so busy that both of us lay down for about an hour in the afternoon. I enjoy these naps, because we both feel refreshed afterwards. I haven't made her take a nap on the weekends since she was four, but more often than not she will take a nap on her own.

Naps are taken for any age and any reason. As long as the person thinks it's acceptable, it's just fine.
by the way
I never used to take naps, but instead love that nap time to think about life (in general really) when I was in kindergarten. It's a great time to reflect on everything so I highly recommend it for all ages.

Naps are natural everyone needs to recharge the batteries. There's nothing wrong with a little nap-time but when a kid is old enough to brush their own teeth and wipe their own butts they should know when they need to get some shut-eye. Just let them make their own call in that area. Give them the option but don't force them. Also if your little one has had a rough day then you might suggest it after a comforting snack or something
let them rest their little minds and relieve their stress.

I would say after Kindergarten. Kids still have a nap or rest time at that age, so I would think after that it would not be a mandatory thing at home. But plenty of older kids take naps on their own if they need to.

Wow, age 10... this one's not quite a baby, but if he/she is tired, allow them to take a short nap ( as long as it's not too close to bedtime). Addiquiate sleep for a child your age is 9 hours. If you think after 9 hours he/ she needs a nap- let him/ her have it.
YOu know what's best for your child, go on your judgements!
