Start small, make it measurable, find a reward.

Example... "I am going to drink 8 glasses of water a day for the next 7 days. If I do this, I will take an hour long bubble bath (guilt-free) on Sunday afternoon." Starting small and manageable will have you string along a couple successes. Momentum is a great thing. After a couple small successes, you can move to, "I am going to run for 30 minutes every other morning" or "I will eat 1400 calories every day".

You don't refer specifically here to what habits you are trying to improve, but since this is in the "diet & fitness" section, I will assume you are referring to those. My suggestions are as follows:

1) Pick the number of days you are going to exercise and WRITE IT DOWN ON YOUR CALENDAR. Seeing it in black and white will reinforce that this is important.

2) Maintain self-discipline about this. Go to the gym even when you don't feel like it. On those days, do your favorite exercise. It is better to go ahead and commit to doing something rather than to skip the workout entirely because today's workout doesn't especially appeal to you.

3) Develop some accountability partners. It is easier to stay in the loop if you do this. That way, you are not just "letting down" yourself, but you are also letting down somebody else if you don't go. You would be amazed how much of a difference this will make in you feeling an obligation to be there.

Those are my suggestions.

Start looking for new habits that you like to replace the things you want to change. For instance, to exercise more, find an exercise that you like to do, and don't worry if it burns the most calories or whatever. You'll stick with it if you enjoy it! It may be a matter of finding a workout buddy or joining a nice gym to make it work for you.

Please buy the book, "7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE" by Stephen Covey - read it and follow. Its a wonderful book.

Yoga and meditation may control your mind from wavering here and there. You are your judge. You know what is good and what is bad. Do not live and act only to satisfy others. You are your master and guru. Tat tum asi - you are that.
