If we imagine no God, it is terrifying. I see what a lack of moral direction begets and it is not pretty. I think a better imagination would be a world where everyone loved God to the point that they put aside their own petty wants and just did his will. Do you agree? (Being that there is a tribute going around to John Lennon, this should get a few remarks)

Now, do not say that the song does not talk against God but just religion, because it does. It says "nothing above us only sky"

I agree with you 100%.

But in today's atheist death culture, it's probably going to be one of the most beloved.

It's a beautiful song, and a lovely thought.

It's so sad that you have no moral direction without being threatened with hell. I guess not everyone can be a good person. Some people need threats.

Loving a fictional character more than we love each other? That's a horrible thought. The kind of thinking that will only end up leading to more wars (As it already has).

Your views are pretty warped and scary. I'm glad everyone is not like that.

You're just being ignorant and self-centred. Try to imagine this world without the problems of religion, where all of us are united instead of being seperated by different religions and belief. That's what John Lennon wanted to say, Peace.

Peace, that's a good quality, why don't we all get along with our own religion and use that Peace and enjoy it?

That is the point.

Peace out.

Did anybody ever see the episode of WKRP in Cincinnati where a Jerry Falwell-like preacher tried to get "Imagine" banned from the air?

I tend to think of the song as a longing to return to Eden. Before the fall, there was no worrying about Heaven or Hell, right?

(btw, that's metaphor--I don't mean to imply I'm a 7-day creationist, or any sort of creationist, for that matter) ;)

Oh, and I dig the XTC "Dear God" tune--that's a good one; it fits into the whole theodicy model from the biblical tradition.

It says IMAGINE these things. So what?

It may be terrifying for you, but it isn't terrifying for anyone with a properly-functioning brain and enough balls to face life and death without looking for an escape clause. I hope, as John Lennon hoped, that one day you deluded sheep will wake up and realize that this life is all you get, and you shouldn't waste it being MORONS.

Lennon, by the way, was a Secular Humanist, not an atheist, but since when have Christians cared about facts, right?

OO really scary.

A world where everyone loved god? If John had not been murdered by one of your weirdo religious friends he would be alive today. Lack of moral direction?? Wasn't the person who killed John a christian ?

Mark Chapman, Lennon's murderer, became a born-again Christian at 16 and distributed Bible tracts. He and his friend Michael McFarland, performed a comedy act in churches and Christian nightspots

I definitely have consistently enjoyed Lennon's good judgment. the sorrowful element is that it is organic that some human beings interior the human inhabitants are ignorant and crammed with hate. it is much extra unhappy that people who're ignorant and crammed with hate are many times people who's message gets unfold and who initiate wars that the peace supporters finally end up scuffling with.

Never heard a song I thought was scary. And, what would John Lennon know about God anyway?

Life without God would be the worst thing I could ever imagine. God Bless

I can imagine a life without religion,
but not a life without the living God.

I liked John Lennon, and his ideals. Atheism does not equal a lack of moral direction, no matter what you might have to say about it.

Edit: Listen to "Dear God" by XTC...
