Personally I would choose pepper spray over a stun gun. I assume that they would be easier to use on a criminal or intruder, they would be more effective, and they'd be cheaper than a stun gun.

As an officer I love the X-26 Taser. It packs a punch. Except for a person on cocaine and cracked out of his mind, It has worked every time so far. I have even seen demonstrations where a $100.00 is placed in front of a person and told if you can pick it up its your. They never take the $100.00 home. Every time they are rendered useless.
Also the company will replace the cartridge, batteries, and even the gun if they have to as long as you file a police report. If someone attacks you, why wouldn't you file a report.
With the taser you can also keep your distance unlike the baton. If the baton gets taken away in a close up fight then your in big trouble. The taser has a range of 21 feet. If you miss you can still touch them with it and have the same effect as if you darted them.
There are lots of videos out there showing the tasers effectiveness. The best show a person getting hit with pepper spray and watching them fight on for minutes. Then the same person is hit with a taser and they drop like a sack of rocks.
The X-26 Taser is 50,000 vlots. Despite what anti taser activist are crying, the taser is still considered a less lethal option. It has not been proven to cause any deaths by itself. In the death related cases where the taser may have been at fault, there have always been other conditions such as heart problems or drugs in the persons system at the time of the tasing.

I do not recommend carrying a stun gun, knife or gun for personal protection. Keep in mind that what you use for personal protection can be taken away from you and used against you by the assailant. Take a self-defense course instead and the instructors will teach you ways to use your body instead of a weapon to protect yourself. You will be amazed at the self-defense tactics you can learn that are very simple.

A .50 desert eagle is quite a stunner or one of those baton stun guns so she doesn't have to get too close to her attacker. A real gun would be better.

Tell her to get something with a caliber that starts with the number 4 and get training and a legal authorization to carry it. A stun gun is a terrible idea....she will have to be in physical contact with a man or men who intend her harm to use it.

I prefer roses and chocolates and nice gifts to persuade my ladies. Stun guns leave them awfully grumpy.

Pepper spray is better as it can be fired away from the attacker you don't want to be any closer than you have to.
