There is the slight chance he was asking for a buddy, but that should be easily cleared up by talking to the woman in question.

Absolutely I would confront him.You have a right to know why he want's to know that information from her.Depending on what his reasons where then you have to decide if you want to be with him or not.

tell him you heard what he said, ask him why he said it. If he touches his face a lot while tells you his reasons or if he immediately gets mad and defensive, he's probably lying. Break up with him and move on. You deserve better!
