I work in construction and there are a few white people who work with me. So I was trying to make us be friendly since we have to work together. I invited them to a party last Friday. When they came to the party they brought some food from Taco Bell, a sombrero, and a piñata.

I threw a Corona bottle at them and kicked them out.

Yes I am Mexican and it was just a regular party. If a Italian person invites you to a party, do you automatically assume they are going to be eating spaghetti and watching The Godfather? This is related to my last question.

Ok people, so here's the thing. Number one, you can't say to Antis how he should have FELT! Really. And Antis, nobody is going to be able to tell you that your feelings were WRONG!
YOU need to discover WHY you have those feelings.
As for your friends, They may have had GOOD and Funny intentions. I'm not sure that they would have gone to such a great extent to offend you, I mean that's alot of stuff to buy to just piss someone off that you work with. And that's THREE people you work with. YET, on the other hand, if these three people have been friends for a long time and I read your question correctly, it sounds like something was GOING ON BEFORE YOU INVITED THEM TO THE PARTY, like you were feeling alienated by them already because why would you have to invite them to a party just to "MAKE" us be friendly.
Do you see what I am saying? The choice of your words is revealing. So from that I would say, maybe the plan to befriend them has probably backfired and I would think about how YOU handled it.
I know this sounds like a harsh criticism because you are feeling upset with those freaks. They are definately assholes for doing that, no matter how much they dislike you for whatever reason. They should have just said NO to the party.

I always say, when people act like morons, turn them into even bigger morons. When they arrived with all that stuff, Iinstead of getting upset, I would have said to them:
1. "OH, isn't this wonderful. Do you know, it's our tradition that any guests who bring sombrero have to wear them for the whole party? Please you must do this or all of my hispanic guests will be very offended"

2. "Oh, Thank you for the Taco Bell. In my culture each guest brings his pot-luck dish around to all the other guests so come in the kitchen and I'll set you up with a serving tray.

3. "Oh, thank you for bringing the Pinata but I'm so sorry for you because in my cultural beliefs, anyone who brings a pinata to an adult party has bad luck for cinco anos. I mean 5 years. But that's ok, I will take it for my neice and maybe God will forgive you" Then look upward, make a cross and say, "yeah it's ok."

I'm telling you, those three people are going to **** in their pants and they will either be so impressed with your resiliance, that they may just let you in to their stupid little group. But why would you want to be part of a group like that anyway.

On the other hand, everything I have told you could be a totally wrong interpretation of the situation. Just my take.
Then again, are we talking about of rough construction guys?
I would consider their level of understanding of other cultures?
Maybe they REALLY have no idea that you don't eat taco bell, wear sombreros, and hit pinatas. They could genuinely be ignorant...in which case it's your job to educate them, not hate them.
But...throwing the Corona, throwing anything is definately not the way to go. Outsmart or Educate.

Maybe they were also trying to be friendly. OK Taco Bell is not the choice of food I would have brought and a pinata and sombrero are both pretty questionable but isn't it possible that they were bringing something they thought appropriate and had no intention of offending you?

Antis, if they DID intend to offend you then you really don't need them around your house anyway and are better off without them.

No you shouldn't have been offended. You should have made a joke of it instead (I would have) and as somebody else said, turn up to THEIR parties dressed in bib-alls with a few blackened teeth, waving a rebel flag etc. (disagree about the baby by 1st cuz though - sister's more like it)

That would have earned you their respect. Instead, you may have alienated them, which will make it very difficult for you to continue working with them.

Why not say to them "Great joke last week, sorry I got upset" or words to that effect. They may surprise you and apologise for causing offense. If nothing else, it should reduce tensions at work.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck

Would you have been equally upset if they only brought Corona?

And Dude, Reese is right it is lasagna & The Soprano's. That is the feast food of our people ummmmmm...... LASAGNA! And we already know all the words to all 3 Godfathers, so The Soprano's are our viewing choice.

It's not really offensive. They just made an assumption about the Mexican culture. But, it's not the big deal.

Did they really bring Taco Bell? I want to hurl everytime I try that food. It's so gross.

LOL......well.....in our grocery stores around here they kept having all Mexican type foods on sale for the Super Bowl. Since when has the Super Bowl been catered with Mexican foods? I want my hot dog or BBQ or pizza.

I guess you can be offended by everything if you want....I figure they were just trying to be thoughtful. I see it was Corona and not a Bud you tossed their way. Just goes to show there isn't anything anyone can do right anymore.

Your whole story reads like it was made up, because we both know that if you attacked a group of white people with a beer bottle, you would have ended your story about going to jail, being sued, and losing your job.

U SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN OFFENDED! They were just trying to be friendly and nice. Some people like Taco Bell!! U HAD NO RIGHT TO THROW A BEER BOTTLE AT THEM AND KICK THEM OUT!

What's so offending about some food?
I'm sure they weren't trying to offend you or anything.
They probably brought in respect of your country and customs.

Good job anti, you just managed to make them hate Mexicans.
They'll probably have no respect for you and your countries custom the next time you meet. You're the one that was being disrespectful.

I don't see anything offensive here. I have had the same types of parties myself. Pinatas are fun, sombreros can start some funny dances, and most kids like taco bell. I'd say bring on the margarita's and get this party started.
