The term for that is Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism. There are lots to choose from but the most helpful is webMD.

Thyroid that doesn't produce enough hormone is called Hypothyroidism. Usually a test to test your TSH, T1, T3 and T7 levels can determine if your thyroid is producing any hormones and how much. It is by these results that a physician will know how much replacement hormone to give you.
