Yesterday I asked if my daughter was too old to suck the binky only during nap and bed time and majority of you said yes... I totally agree but what is a good way to take her off the binky?

We just went through this.

I had planned on making a slow transition - moving from nap and bedtime to just bedtime, then have him give his binky to some babies that are soon to be born into our family...

Unfortunately he had an accident where he fell, loosening his 2 front teeth a bit. The dentist said they would tighten back up - that the lips and tongue would keep them from becoming crooked - but we had to take the binky away.

So we took it away, told him binky went bye-bye, and we let him take books and a toy in bed (we previously had not) to ease the transition.

He cried a lot at naptime the first 2 days, and took shorter naps. Twice in the first four days he didn't nap at all (the first time EVER). Because of that bedtime was easier because he was so exhausted.

It's now been a week and a half and he's doing really well. He doesn't go down as easy as he did with the binky, but he went down ridiculously easy before, so it's not bad, really. He occasionally asks for the binky, but then says "All gone" by himself.

Cold turkey was NOT the way I wanted to do it, but we had little choice. And in the end I really think it was easier not to drag it out...

Good luck!

Unfortunately you just have to take it away! Get down to her level with the binky or binkies and explain that binkies are for babies and she is a big girl! You then completely dispose of the binkies. She will cry and be angry! However you can defuse the situation with a new toy. 2 is the age where you need to began the Big Girl routine. You can start now take the binkies get a new toy. Buy her some valentines (they only cost 1 dollar a box) Let her draw to her friends and family and allow her to dress herself! Make sure you are giving lots of praise for good big girl behaviour!
Make sure you are treating her like a toddler and not a baby.
Good Luck and be Patient

I sewed the plastic ring of the binky to my son's favorite blanket so he became soothed by the blanket as much as the binky. After a few weeks I cut the binky off and he only slept with the blanket. When he asked where the binky was I told him it had melted into the blanket so it was still there you just couldn't see it, but you could feel it when you held it close. He accepted that and slept with the blanket for awhile. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Hokey, she's old to be on a pacifier! Time for the Binky Fairy to come - you explain to her that there are other children who need binkies, and the Binky Fairy will come to fetch hers to pass along to the other children - and the Fairy will leave her something special if she does this. Collect all the binkies with her, and leave them in a basket hung from a tree outside. The next day, go with her to see the binkies all gone (!) and a lovely gift waiting for your binky-free daughter. Works like a charm!

I have 3 kids all binky lovers. I just take it and deal with it for about a week until its all over. My thing is to tell them they are a big kid now-which at 2 they really don't care! The first couple days are the hardest for both of yous cuz they will cry themselves to sleep. I know it sounds horrible but the longer they have it the worse it can be for their teeth. Good luck!

The only way to do it is cold turkey. It won't be nearly as bad as you think. Make her watch you throw them out, and then reward her for being such a big girl (no matter how she responds). Tell her how big she is all day. Don't expect her to nap but she should be so wiped out from no nap that she'll sleep at night. Just always tell her you got rid of the binkies cause the babies need them and she's too big for one. Trust me, it won't be bad at all.

My son LOVES to have his sippy cup at nighttime, he's 3-1/2, it's been really tough to stop him from asking for it and having a fit everytime I say "no". What I found that has worked wonders so far is I start telling him before he goes to bed, like half hour to an hour, that it's almost bed time, and tonight we are going to try not to have our sippy cup. I keep reminding him and praising him for not asking for it. "I am so proud of you for not wanting your sippy cup, great job!" Stuff like that. They love to hear the praise. IF that doesn't work, find something else to distract her, or make sure that she's really tired before putting her down. After a few days of going to bed exhausted, she'll get the idea that she doesn't need that binky. Good luck.

talk about the binky going to a baby that needs it.
slowly start hiding the binky and let the child try to find it until it can no longer be found... should take about a month. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BABY HAS A "LUVY" JUST TO MAKE THE TRANSITION EASIER

Give it a going away party or make it a game.. Like toss the binky in the trashcan and tell it Bye bye..and ask her to do the same thing. She may get upset at 1st.. but keep trying. Give her a alternate thing, like a blanket to sleep with. I wish you luck and know it will complicated at 1st but it will work out.

i saw on America's Funniest Home Videos last night the cutest thing.... the family took all the little boy's binkies and hooked them up to a bunch of balloons and told him that the "Binky Fairy" needed them for all the babies that were crying in Heaven..... and after they let the binkies go, he got some kind of reward... i thought that was EXTEMELY creative and cute....
