It is for some. Religion is not in of itself bad, often religions have very good life lessons to share, on the other hand, some encourage various undesirable or restrictive behaviours and make those seem to be "the way it should be". For example some religions require certain clothes to be worn or foods that you can or can not eat.

I think that on some level man will always wonder what comes after death. So with that in mind it is necessary at this time.
Religion offers ideas as to what the afterlife is like and what the point of living is. In all cultures there is some form of religion that attempts to explain an afterlife. Bushmen in New Guinea believe that the spirits of the dead roam in different parts of the forest. Christians believe the spirit goes to heaven or hell, Buddhists believe spirits are recycled back into life.
Atheism is a very new belief system, based on science. It may one day render Religion obsolete, but not until science is able to prove, without doubt that there is no deity. Until that happens religion will be necessary as man will continue to seek/create answers to death.

I have an Australian mate who's been living in London and going out with a Mexican girl for the last 2 years.
She's gone back home now, and he went and stayed with her family (at her uncle's house, mind you, not with her and her parents). He managed to make her mum and dad cry on separate occasions.
Her dad was asking her, so what's the deal with this guy, are you holding hands, or are you even maybe kissing, or is it .......something else?
(they are 26 and 27 years old)
She said, "Dad, I can't lie to you. It's something else". and he starts crying.
One the way to the airport, the mum has a 20 question grilling ready and finally asks "what religion are you?"
He replies, through the girlfriend as interpreter, "umm, Ah, I don't ...really have one ....as such".
The girlfriend explains this to her mother and that it's just a different culture and they don't go to church as much in Australia
Mum does something along the lines of "Es Non Acceptable !!" and starts crying.
Nice work mate.
They are in love and will probably end up getting married, but this probably means she will have to run away from Mexico and her parents will disown her.
Honestly, what is the point of taking anything in life that seriously?

Religion is induction of a few ethics on a person.
Sad to say, we have lost the essence of the religion. the interpretation of religion these days is more based on discriminating factors. All we understand is who different the other religion is from ours. rarely have we ever tried to understand the common ethics of humanity that any religion preaches.
Even when a few times we wonder about the similarites, we start claiming that since our religion was older that ours, ours is better, still clinging on to discrimination factors. it's just another kind of hypocritc nature of human beings. We tend to call people primitive when they follow their religious customs, and when we do it we call ourselves as perfect followers of god. We call ourselves modern, but every now and then we have to prove that how my religious ancestors had supremacy over your religious ancestors. The funny side is that there are a lot of websites who provide such data and the funnier fact is that they have a lot of visitors too... Where the hell are we heading upto - Future or Past?

Religion is like a subject to learn and develop human qualities and to acknowledge higher form of truth related to an individual and/or universe.
It is advocated in every religion that there is different and unique joy if any individual realised the power of self.
So it depends on man whether he is interested in such type of joy (or power) or not.

Religion in old times was formed to give people a way of life. Its purpose was to give some rules by which people will abide by and to maintain some peace in the society. Now it is not required as we have law in the society but it is good to follow religion to have self control and peace.

It is only done by humans. So in my opinion if you are being grouped with a set of community/religion dont try to reject it as you are there with it already. And if you want to be a person to say no, then be more possitive in you approach as ther are some who will come in your way.Be prepared for the good & bad.

Yes it is. Note that only man, of all living beings, has an innate need for worship, hence the development of different religions in different parts of the world... without it, we'd turn to self-worship, which isn't good at all... Therefore religion is VERY necessary for man.
