Imagination was the ultimate product of evolution. It lets us plan for things that might happen even when we haven't been in the situation before. Curiosity is another. You learn by looking for the answer and other animals do have this ability.

A dog doesn't have the same thought processes that humans do! A dog also doesn't know of a God or have a soul.

A dog knows that it exists. I am not sure to what level they think of it, and I doubt they are very philosophical. You must remember our brain is more advanced than a dog's brain.
