I know that low-fat diets are out of vogue nowadays, but I can't take a low-carb diet as high-fat foods aggravate my IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Should I stick to a low-fat diet?

By the way I mean serious low-carb diets, not fad diets like Atkins, which I'm convinced doesn't work... The ones I'm talking about advocate good fats and low glycemic index carbs because fat storage is triggered by insulin, which is triggered by carbs.

Atkins has NOT been proven successful... Any diet with no carbs will make you mentally retarded, as glucose is the only fuel your brain can use... and did I mention Dr Atkins died of a heart attack?

Atkins has been around 40 years- hardly a fad. You're mistaken if you believe it's high-fat. In fact, it's very low fat, any any fat eaten is in the form of healthy, beneficial fats (a small slice of avocado, for example). It's a shame you're so misguided about the Atkin's diet. It's been proven successful for 40+ years, but so many people are clueless about how to go about it and they just invent their own "diet" rather than learning about it.
When fat is removed from the foods, it has to be replaced with something-- high fructose corn syrup, usually.

Yes. I do not recommend no carb or low carb diets. You just need to pick the right carbs to eat.

Yes yes yes!!! I think that just watching your calorie and fat intake is all you need to do. Keep a diary check online to find out what your calorie intake should be for your height and weight in order to lose weight and try to get in some exercise. I am so sick of the low carb trend all you need is moderation I have lost 8 pounds in the past 10 days just by paying attention to what I am putting in my body and that is without exercise! Good Luck!

Low fat & low calories. The low carb thing is just a joke anyways. That diet is unsustainable for a long period of time.
