Does anyone know the percentage of USCG reservists who have been activated for service in the Persian Gulf. I understand a lot depends on the speciality...but was looking for a rough estimate.

Thanks

About 8.5% of all CG Reserves give or take, and 99% of them requested active duty! Coast Guard has to many actives who want to go to need to activate any for Persian Gulf duty! Same amount approximately have gone active duty to replace the people who talked their way into PG from Active Service duty stations.
During VN the waiting list for volunteers was over 3 years for duty in country.

There have been some port security units activated because that is the primary duty there and PS is a reserve specialty. I understand that the units have been pretty liberal with people who don't think they can sack up for that. At one time there were about 1,000 USCG personnel there but it might be less now. Only one fatality and that was a small boat that was blown up approaching a suspicious boat.
