I use either peanut butter or spray cheese in a can and I mix it with pieces of either Canine Carry Outs treats or peanut butter flavored dog biscuits, and sometimes both. I then freeze it overnight so that they last longer.
I have also used Scrambled eggs mixed with either the cheese or peanut butter and frozen that overnight. I do not use butter or oil to scramble the egg. They love this, and it is good for their coat. You can also hardboil the egg and cut it up instead of scrambling it.
I do not do this often, but the dogs absolutly love it. When I cook stew or chicken in dumplins, I will put some of the left overs in the Kong and freeze it. I put it in a cup to sit upright to freeze so that the food will not run out the hole. Once it has frozen the gravy keeps the stuff from falling out. I only do this every so often. It can be very messy so this is better outside, in a crate, or a hard floor.

KONG Ambrosia
Ingredients –
½ cup non-fat sugar free yogurt
½ banana, sliced
1 tbsp honey
1 spoonful of peanut butter
Aluminum Foil
Mix no-fat sugar free plain yogurt with a tablespoon of honey. Add a heaping spoon full of peanut butter and sliced bananas. Wrap aluminum foil around the small end of the Classic KONG Toy and scoop the mixture into the KONG. Freeze. Then hand them out when your dog is in need of an exciting afternoon treat. They have to lick the KONG to warm up the frozen treats and get it out. This keeps them busy for at least 45 minutes and gives me free time knowing they won't be into other mischief. The yogurt is also great for their digestive system!
Thanks for bringing this question up cause my dog loves the Kong but only if I fill it with something he likes. Brought me to do a search for Kong toys which is how I found their website.

My dogs love bananas, apples and baby carrots. Sealing the treats inside the kong with a little peanut butter and freezing it makes for a great treat.
I have also used leftover steamed vegetables mixed with brown rice; it's a little messier, so I give those to them in thier crates or outside, but they love it.
I don't like the pre-canned "Kong Stuff'n" that is at pet stores--the coloring stains everything in sight.

I find putting dog treats for small dogs in them very effective. I like giving them something that will last a long time and those usually are harder for them to get to. Like everyone said peanut butter is great but I find it doesn't last as long. If you want something a little different you can try American cheese. My dogs love that and its not as messy as the canned cheese.
If you want something else that is great that isn't in a KONG get the real bones that are fulled with real marrow. My dogs love these and the can actually eat the whole bone but it literally takes them days to do it. They have all different sizes for different breeds. I get mine from Pet-Smart.

I place peanut butter on a knife and place it as deep in the kong as possible and I pack it tightly against the side. Also, a tiny T-bone fits well. It is tough to get out and should provide some silent time.

Have you tried filling it with peanut butter and freezing it to last longer? I've never met a dog that could resist peanut butter!
May also stick pieces of ham, jerky, cheese or something similar in the peanut butter (they don't mind weird mixes!) to keep them more interested.

peanut butter
kibble
kibble/p-butter mix
p-butter with a touch of oatmeal
they also make what is called "Kong Stuff'n" that comes in a can and squirts out like cheese-whiz. There are many different flavors for that

I fill mine with kibble and top it off with peanut butter and freeze it. In the summer I mix plain yogurt and peanut butter and kibble and stuff the Kong and freeze it.

Of course the peanut butter thing is good. Instead of buying the Kong cheese stuff, which tends to be pricey I buy squeeze cheese, you know for crackers and stuff. It is less expensive. I put broken peices of cookies in the cheese to give him something to work for.
