There is a lot more involved to choosing a dog than it's name. Research both breeds and decide which matches your lifestyle best.

I love pugs, and think they are super cute, and they make nice pets. I love all the dogs with smashed faces. There is something too cute about an animal that looks like it got kicked in the face. I am not sure what it is though. So if it were me I would get a pug.
My husband would say to get the shih tzu. They had them as family pets when he was growing up, and he says they were his favorite pets growing up. He has told me that their's were very smart and would do a lot of tricks. So my husband would say the shih tzu.
I have an idea, get them both if you will have time for them. Then they will have a friend when you are away.Good Luck.

Both dogs are cute, but before getting a dog think about how much time and money you are willing to put into your dog. Shih tzu need to be groomed often. Pugs also need a lot of attention. Pugs shed quite a bit, they are also know to snore. You also need to find out about the potential health that could crop up with either breed. I'm not trying to stop you from getting a dog. Personally I feel everyone needs a good dog in their life, but it's important to do some research first. Good luck.

Pugs are great pets. I have one. I don't have experience with Shih tzus, but from what I have read, they make good companions. The shih tzu will probably be a little smaller. The biggest difference is that you will have monthly grooming bills with the shih tzu, and with the pug, you will have hair ALL OVER your house and clothes.

Wow! There are so many ways to answer that! If you are concerned about the breed, I think you need to consider your circumstances -- apt? house? city? suburbs? INCOME? If you are concerned about the name, I believe a dog can be re-trained to answer to a name different from the one its current owner uses. John Grogan, author of Marley and Me, says "rattle the cage -- whichever dog DOESN"T retreate into a corner is the dog for you. Hope that helps

Which do you like better? Both are very cute in their own way. I have heard that Pugs can have breathing problems...but I guess all dogs have their own quirks that you have to research and work with.
