You shouldn't knock on the back door. I'ld be pissed if someone came into my backyard uninvited. That's why it is locked.

i've been in that predicament before.. what i usually do, if nobody answers, is use my cell phone and call the house... and just jokingly say.. "hey, it's me, i'm at your front door!" lol
