It is not necessary to use premium fuel...87 octane is the minimum required according to the owner's manual. Premium is recommended for maximum performance. Using regular fuel will not damage the engine. This is stated in the manual and in the nifty "Getting to Know You" CD that comes with the car. I've never used anything but premium in mine (an '05 Grand Prix GTP). I don't see the point of buying the supercharged engine and then negating the performance advantage.

Why not follow your owner's manual? If 87 octane is the minimum recommended; then use it. If you are having problems with pre-ignition or "pinging", then immediately move to a higher octane gasoline. Switching to a higher grade gasoline may avoid the pinging and possible damage to your engine's cylinder heads. This is assuming that your car is tuned and the ignition timing is properly adjusted. A higher grade of gasoline may help your car's performance, especially with your supercharged engine. It's your call, choose wisely.

i own a repair shop, and a few of my customers own these vehicles, and they have been using regular unleaded in their vehicles ,and all of them say it don't make any difference,i own a truck that's supposed to have premium in it,and i run regular, and do better on mileage then i do on premium, you can try it,if you don't notice any difference in the way it runs, you can use the regular in it,it saves you money ,and it will probably run just as good on it as it would premium, good luck i hope this help,s.

The guy above is wrong. If the manual says you should, do it. If you use anything less, you run the risk of premature combustion which will cause SEVERE damage to your engine. Yes it's more expensive, but it's a lot cheaper than having to replace your engine.

yes it requires premium gas. the higher the octane the slower the fuel actually burns... which is why high octane wont make a engine ping and why low octane fuel will

HECK NO! you don't need to use premium, actually you SHOULD NOT use it. I use plain and it functions fine. The extra octane may deposit crap in your spark plugs, creating an expensive-to-fix misfire.

put some regular in it. if your gas milage goes down the toilet, then you need premium.

it wont do any damage, itl just cost more. might lose some power while burnin regular
