IThere was a school of thought called the Mu'tazilites', (rationalists). (they believed the Koran is created). They applied reason to the solution of philisopical problems (hellenistic influence) ie whether a Muslim who had committed a grave sin was a believer or not, some believed at that time, that the muslim was not a believer so could be put to death. Others said the muslim was a believer but a hypocrite. Another would say the Muslim was neither a believer nor an infidel and this marked the beginning of the Mu'tazilite school (in a nutshell). This all lead to Kalam, Islamic theology itself.

Totally agree with 'cirque de lune' about this. Everyone should read the Koran a few times (it's a very short book) and also try to read some of the other texts that Muslims read as part of the religion rather than continually believing what so-called 'moderate' Muslims say about Islam; because what they say is incorrect... that's why genuine Muslims regard them as apostate and will kill them like they kill any non-Muslim.
Reason is a product of free-thought and Islam does not encourage free-thought.
Plus everyone NEEDS to know about something in the Koran called 'taquia' which is upheld as righteous and all Muslims are encouraged to do it in service of their god... it is LYING and DECEPTION for the sake of their religion when Islam is threatened by non-Muslims. Taquia is something most Muslims strongly deny as existing, but it's right there in the Koran... NEVER believe what a Muslim tells you about Islam, because lying and deception are prescribed in the Koran as good things to practise.

Please contact any Philosopher/student or teacher of Philosophy. He shall be familiar with a discipline "Kalaam" in Muslim Philosophy. There all issues, commandments, acts of the sacred person are questioned and discussed on the basis of Logic. Logic is being taught in Madressah(seminary) as a compulsary subject. Iranians particularly have produced great philosophers of Islam. Spain did too. Reasoning is for the specialists who have been groomed in the art of Reasoning. And, it has always been done. It is not for common man to reason. He is not equipped to do it in theological matters.

Actually, Islam does use reason, as well as logic. But, reason and logic are subjective and not viewed the same by every person. The same could be said for Christianity and Hinduism... it's all a matter of personal belief and opinion.

if the koran said black is white - they would kill you in an arguement about it.
They are brainwashed, blind people, and should not be exposed to modern, free-thinking society.
MALAKULMORTE - you are one crazy lunatic if you actually believe what you are saying for one millisecond. The koran is full of lies, contradictions and absolute absurdities beyond belief. Go and shake your head for a couple of hours.

He he, chuckler, the Quran has been proven false on medical, scientific, and historical facts Mohammad supposedly heard from Allah.
Mohammad hated Christians, reminding his followers at every turn to despise them, and he never said one word about Christians really being Muslims. That is a myth modern Muslims have invented to try and give their Quran legitimacy.
Muslims tell us the Quran is perfect, yet they lie about what the Quran says every day.
For those out there who say I'm making this up, I challenge you to research it for yourself. Research everything modern Muslims say about the Quran, then go get a copy of the Quran and read it for yourself. The writings in the Quran itself are Exhibit A that Muslims are lying.
