Very commonly, though it's not essential (It's possible to be depressed and very insensitive and indifferent to people)

Especially if associated with low self esteem or confidence. The insecurity, the depression and the sensitivity all tend to feed each other.

One part of treatment for depression may involve questioning these thoughts and "self-talk" to try and see if they are realistic, or exaggeratedly negative.

What you have described is a very common symptom of depression but that does not necessarily mean that you have a depressive disorder. It does sound like you have issues related to feelings of inferiority, insecurity, and self-doubt. Are these symptoms new to you - not typically representing who you are as a person? If the symptoms have been relatively new then I would wonder if something is going on with you emotionally, but if you have felt this way for awhile then I would think self-esteem problems related to interpersonal functioning is a primary problem. I have suffered from depression and experienced considerable concerns about how others perceived me, feeling like a failure, or feeling as if I didn't deserve anything good in my life. Depression certainly does interfere with people's perceptions of themselves and the world around them.
