Over what time period?

In the past 50 years, I have walked up thousands of flights.

Yes. I used to do that to work out. I'd go up the stairs and down, and move a dart on the dartboard at the bottom of the stairs to the next number. When I got around the dartboard five times, I was done. Its a great workout--you get as much out of running up and down stairs for half an hour as you'd get from running for a much longer time. It was also great for me, because I wanted to train not only for endurance but also for quick feet--so running down stairs was good for me too.

If you are going to try this, focus on not stopping--don't worry about how fast you go, though I would say it is easier to get in as many flights of stairs as possible in the first few minutes and then start going slow and steady.

A well trained person could do so, but it would take several hours. That is something like 2000 steps. Even for a trained athlete, that is a lot of stairs.

Probably not. I could train for it, tho. I went in training to do the Grand Canyon hike and got up the Bright Angel trail in about 3 hrs., it was not even hard. You can train for almost anything.

Yes. I did it in Notre Dame. Kudos if you can run up stairs in a spiral for 20 minutes and not pass out. (I didn't pass out)
