You should generally be able to tell if a guy is attracted to another female or not. I went months not knowing one of my co-workers liked me. To be frank he wan't even close to being my type. He was a little too thick for me, kind of a dork, didn't dress nice at all, and to make matters worse my now ex-best friend was obsessed with him for a long time. Sometimes you can't tell if a guy likes you or not. 95% of the time I can tell if a guy likes me or not, but that guy fit into the 5% no clue that he liked me. So you see sometimes you really can't tell, but you never know. Good luck!

The question is do you want more? If you like the guy there's nothing wrong with letting him know. If he's shy like you said there's the possibility he feels the same

Ask him out on progressively more serious dates. Coffee - lunch - dinner - dinner and dancing etc. As long as he is going along he wants more.
