it's obvious that The catholic clergy system was started by a money hungry nutjob, it was fun during the Dark ages and oppression, but now it's causing damage and costing money.

I'm Christian, and this whole subject makes me want to vomit. I don't really know why they don't address this problem, but I do know that it won't go away until they do, or until Christ returns.
As a side-note, Scripture tells us that upon His return, He intends to visit the pulpits first, and that his vengence will start there. Gee, I wonder why............

I don't think that celibacy was the reason a few priests committed crimes. If a vow of celibacy was the cause, then ALL priests would be guilty. The Catholic Church is wrong of covering up the crimes, not turning these animals over to the police and not doing enough to help the victims. I don't believe other pedophiles in our society have taken this vow, so what caused them to molest children?

May God Bless you.

I have said it before and I am sure I will say it again. All law enforcement officials and mental health professionals agree that pedophilia is abuse of power. It is not exactly about sex. A voluntary vow of celibacy does not turn anyone into a pedophile.

That said, maybe removing some priestly authority might be a solution? But if you remove some priestly authority you start down a very slippery slope. I wish I had a better solution.

Pastor Billy says: ya'll talking against celibacy are talking off the top of your heads with no statisical evidence to back up your position. Contrary to what the uneducated like black-masterflash here would have you believe parish priests are diocean priests who are paid a salary and upon their death leave their remaining property to anyone they so wish. Regarding child abuse a government study has determined woman [1] are more likely to abuse children than men and regarding priestly abuse percentages these are lower than that found in Protestant clergy who for the majority are married men. Overall the general population has much high rates of abuse toward children.

Final food for thought after Policemen who do you think have the highest rate of divorce???.................. Protestant clergy thats who ;)

[1] The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data Systems was developed by the Children’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Human Services in partnership with the States to collect annual statistics on child maltreatment from State child protective services agencies. For the year 2001, it was found that approximately 903,000 children were victims of child maltreatment, 10 percent of whom (or 90,000) were sexually abused. It also found that 59 percent of the perpetrators of child abuse or neglect were women and 41 percent were men.[i]

That's a funny question. I think it's ridiculous that the Pope can just say, "hey, I talked to God the other day and He decided it's okay for Priests to get married now..." I AM NOT a Catholic. Don't get me wrong. I think the whole idea of a celibate priest is ridiculous anyway. I also think it's ridiculous to have a Pope who supposedly talks to God who tells him what's right and wrong. So, if the pope told everybody God said actually, it's okay to molest little boys, the Catholics would believe him? It's a crooked religion. Nobody who abuses boys was EVER right with God. I don't believe that telling priests they can get married is going to "cure" their obsession with helpless children though. They've obviously got something else wrong with them.

I completely agree with you, all the great Prophets on the bible had like 2 wives, and like hundreds of children.
The loving and loyal relationship between a man and a woman is one of the most beautiful things on earth and it's blessed by God, I have heard of priest in other religions (episcopal) who are married and I don't see was the problem with that.
Children been molested by "men of God" is just so disgusting! and they should be treated as common criminals!!!

I totally agree. In Christianity, they encourage pastors to be married to reduce the amount of temptation. In fact, in the bible it says "it is good for a man to be married" and there are very few cases where a person is given "the gift of singleness". Singleness is given to those who can handle it, and they know they are supposed to be single. Its not a demand from God.

Its not good for a man or a woman to be forced not to be with someone sexually because of a religion, because it is just more cause for failure. The human sex drive is extreamly strong. Its hard to resist for people who arent forced!

Read the bible for once and see for yourself, Jesus encourages celibacy.
Pedophiles are sick and it's a developmental issue like homosexuality, they won't marry anyway.
Besides the pope does not have private line to God , he prays like the rest of us, one thing I know is that he does not think he knows better than Jesus, like some protestants do.
