Hi,
Welcome to hd viewing...........
for the best setting try the avforum website, join, then ask for the setting for the tv.
Although each tv has a manufacture setting, it is not the best one, ie contrast, brigtness etc.
Also depending on each input ie hd, dvd etc, modify each input to the correct setting.
Once you have done that you can then change ( if required ) the setting to you peference.
enjoy

Generally the factory setting or default is the best for everyday viewing.
If you like to play with the settings, try this 10min setup used by home theatre custom installers worldwide -
Pause a film with a human on screen, darken the room and get close to the TV set.
Adjust the contrast so that details such as shirt buttons / skin or hair is as detailed as possible (you WILL find an optimum level)
Adjust colour settings whilst looking at the skin still looking for the best detail and likeness to our own skin.
Finally adjust the settings for brightness looking at any black area of the picture and try to make it as black as possible without losing the details mentioned above.
* this procedure may at first make the image look washed out but its how the broadcater intended the tv to be veiwed.

Whatever you prefer.
The 'best' picture settings on a television are purely personal.

automatic one would assume, plus make sure you have hi-definition input from the new HD-dvd or Sky HD because normal dvds and terrestrial tv looks crap on big tv's.
