He told me very eloquently that it was to keep him ever close to my heart. I am just wondering if this was something sweet he came up with or if potentially he was following a tradition. I know that fraternity guys "pin" or "lavelier" their girlfriends. Boys in high school give their girlfriends their letterman jacket or their class ring. Do military men (or more specifically guys in the army) give their girlfriends their dog tags?

His old Dog Tags? He should actually only have one set. I had an additoional set made up that looked like mine, but were not exactly military replicas to give to my girlfriend while I was in the service. I don't know if it's really a tradiotion, but it is kinda the varsity jacket type thing saying "I only have one of these and I am giving it to you". If he is still is in the service he should have his original dog tags beacuse should anything ever happen to him, they use them to identify the body, and one stays around the neck and the other becomes a toe tag. Anyhow wether you received a replica set or the real set, you are special in your mans heart.

It's not a military tradition, but it has been done before. I'd take him at his word, whether he came up with it or got it from some other source like the military or X-Men movies. In either case, it sounds like he thought it was a meaningful gesture.

First question would be is he out of the army? second are they his originals(I have 2 pair). I personally think he is doing the high school ring thing cause it is not some tradition. Let me tell you one more thing. If he is still in and hasn't got them on his person he is liable for many bad things. His social security number is on those and that is playing with fire.

I think it was just a sweet thing for him to do. He is showing he cares for you, and it is probably like what guys did in High School. I would keep them, and not think a thing about it. Also, keep in mind, guys are not as "sneaky" as us when it comes to making up stories to get us to do things...we are the ones usually doing that...you are looking way too into things here, dear. Keep them close to you and be glad you have a man that cares about you!

Giving dog tags to loved one is not as pouplar a thing as giving rings, jackets, or pins.

My dad is in his 70's and has never parted with his. My boyfriend hasn't either. You should feel honored!
