It helps to disseminate information quickly and to a mass audience (i.e., the news) and it can be relaxing or simply entertaining.

The right program can teach people something.

The right program can keep them informed of what is going on.

The right program can inspire them.

The right program can make them laugh, and if a person is sad laughter can actually change brain chemicals and improve the person's mood.

The right program can help people know more about what is healthy for them or their children.

The right program can make people better understand some social problems/need like poverty and the need to help.

The right program can offer musical entertainment and sometimes let people listen to music that they otherwise would not have heard.

Television can be a way of letting people from all over the world share the same experience.

It can allow people to see historical events for themselves.

It can teach children.

It can make a lonely and/or elderly person feel less lonely and more in touch with the world.

It makes a fine night light.

The right program can save lives (as when there is one on that gives signs of heart attack, and people remember what they heard and it ends up saving their life).

The right program can help parents be better parents.

Television allows people to buy things (from info-mercials) if they want, and those products may make their lives easier in some way.

Television gives a lot of people jobs and makes a lot of money for some people.

It allows people to see faraway places that they'll never see in person.

It allows people to see things like Good Morning America's, Diane Sawyer's interview with the Syrian president, which helps people get a better understanding of a country they may not be all that familiar with.

It can advise people during a crisis.

It can warn people before a crisis.

It can help people get a better understanding of other people in their own and other cultures.

It can fill people in on the latest pop culture, which can sometimes help offer conversation material in settings where light talk is more appropriate.

It can be used to get donations for charity.

Television is like most other things. If people use it wisely and put it to its best use it is a very positive thing. People do need to select their programs wisely and aim for the programs that offer something rather than programs that offer little.

Sometimes, though, just sitting and relaxing and watching something for no reason other than entertainment isn't all that bad a way to spend a little time after a busy day.

Television is helpful in many ways, it is entertaining, It keeps you company, It keeps you aware of the world news as it does local also. It gives you the weather report. It teaches, cooking, decorating and cleaning. And if you leave it on when you dog is home alone the dog doesn't chew stuff in the house.
