If you have no choice but to go I think you are going to have to tell yourself that all will be fine. The ferry runs x number of times x number of days a week and has run for x number of years, as have x number of other ferries - and there is no reason or point in worrying. Just assume all will be absolutely fine. That's what you need to tell yourself and just decide to believe.

This may sound extreme, but if it makes you feel any better get a harness for your toddler (if he's your worry) and fasten the two of you together, so you'll be sure he won't go run or climb where he shouldn't.

The only alternative to the above is to not go regardless of whatever or whoever it is that's on the other side of the water. If it isn't a life-or-death situation over there you could just tell whoever it is that you are sorry, but there's no way you are able to ride the ferry.

When it comes to things you're afraid of but can't avoid you just have to tell yourself to not even think about it at all (because if you start it will get worse).

I am completely the same, when we went to Isle of Wight on a ferry I made sure i didn't put my daughter on the ground, she wriggled but I was determined not to let her go. We took her on the deck for some air and i was so scared she was going to fall over board. She was 13 months old then and loved to be running about. I got her some reigns and made sure she wore them even though she wasn't on the floor. This is my very worst nightmare, I even panic when we're near a river or the sea

If you go to the doctor and explain they may be able to help in the short term you could have rescue remedy (from Boots/health shop) but the doctor can give you beta blockers and valium (my friend takes these to fly) they should not be used lightly but you're up against time. And while you're there ask for advice on different therapies. Try and have a good trip, and try not to let your toddler know or it may be a problem for them too.

As you are taking your child with you i think you need to suck it up
Set a good example for you child or he/she will be the same.
SUCK IT UP
think happy thoughts
Nothing can happen look how many times aday the ferry goes back and forth
Your safer in an ariplane or boat than you are in a car or just walking along the street

i wouldn't go. i had the same thing driving over big bridges and almost passed out at the wheel on one. u don't want to put yourself in that position when you have a small child with u. Monday is too soon to get over your phobia. I would say to go out on a ferry by yourself a few times and u will probably eventually get over it like I did. But habing your child with u isn't the time.

I would recommend getting some herbal relaxing tablets..like calms. You dont want anything stronger coz u have your little one to look after...

In the long term i think that you should see a therapist about this, as you wil miss out so much..taking your child swimming..going into the pool while on holiday, and you may well pass this fear onto your child.

Just keep it in mind that you're doing this for your little one. Try to stay away from the side of the boat and relax. Take deep breaths, and just remember you know you can do this. You're a strong, independant woman. Good Luck!!

Find an NLP practioner, they can help you with this. It should only take one session! Here is a link for the general hypnotherapy register

Maybe you could find one near you, give them a call and choose one you like the sound of. Try and choose one that has an NLP qualification too.

The fastest cure can be found in your mind. Try a regression with an hypnotist and you will feel the difference in an hour.
