No, they couldn't cut the bars with it. They probably took floss away from the inmates so that they wouldn't use it as a weapon - either to others, or attempt suicide.

Go ahead you try and cut through a wooden bar with dental floss,, ill give you 10 years.. if you didnt know metal is more durable than wood so im giving you a jump start.

Not so, but it made a fun kinda myth. Tell y'what: get yourself a length of one-inch rebar. Then get y'self a spool of dental floss and see how long it takes you, working all by yourself, to cut through the rebar with the floss.

dang! what was dental floss made of back then? I doubt this is true, but it sounds like something Mythbusters would try. why don't you get some dental floss and a metal bar and try it yourself? I mean, really.....
