None. In order to be a good condender in a dog show, the dog must have AKC purebred papers. You most likely will not find such a dog at an adoption center. First, people who paid lots of money for a purebred dog with show potential rarely drop them off at adoption centers. Second, if they do, they didn't bring the paperwork with them.

If you are serious about wanting a dog that would be a good contender in a dog show, then you'll need to get a purebred from an AKC breeder.

To Begin with dogs that would be "good contenders" do not grow on trees. That is why they are "good contenders".
As a long time show breeder I should tell you that from an extremely well bred litter only about 50% of the puppy's will have show potential, and a breeder has to be real lucky to have one out of the litter actually do well.

I don't think you could show a dog from an adoption center, because adoption centers get their animals fixed, and in most dog shows the animals can not be fixed in order to compete. You maybe able to get one and do agility test, frisbee competions, or field competions. You could even adopt and go to some kind of training to make the dog a working dog of sometype.

Dogs in rescue/shelters up for adoption are not going to be show quality dogs. For one, reputable rescues require all adopted dogs be altered. Altered dogs can not conformation show. The other reason is that the "show quality" dogs are going to be produced by reputable breeders who do not allow their dogs to end up in rescue, ever. They always take a puppy back if someone who has purchased one can't keep it later down the line and it's usually stated in their contract.

Both of my rescue mutts are amazing Agility dogs, but they didn't come right out of the shelters that way - their natural abilities are shaped and encouraged with training. This year's NADAC 16" champion, Gripper, is also from a shelter. There are many thousands of mixed-breeds and purebred rescue dogs competing and winning in dog sporting events.

I don't think any adoption centers think their dogs would do well in a show, unless it was something like agility or flyball. I guess I don't understand your question.
