I think the worst thing that parents do and I mean all parents as i'm sure were all guilty of it. is giving the child what he/she wants just to shut them up for a while.
I will put my hand up to it.
especially when I am on the phone or I have a friend round and were trying to have a conversation I will tell him to get a biscuit/crisps etc as long as he goes to play in his room.
it is a bad way to deal with children and I should be telling him not to interrupt while grown ups are talking but the biscuit is easier and gets rid of him for longer. lol Im a good mum in every other way though lol x

I think that the two problems which, for us, seemed to be difficult to overcome were fussy eating and bedtime routines.
Both of my children developed fussy eating habits in spite of my efforts to give them what I thought they should eat. I was given conflicting advice from relatives and the health visitor - either give them food and tell them that is all there is - eat it as there's nothing else (this led to really upsetting mealtimes and the probability of them going to bed hungry), or find out what they like and let them hve it (not sure a child should dictate what is good for them!) The philosophy I eventually followed was to try to make mealtimes enjoyable and luckily my boys have now a much wider range of tastes and we enjoy our meals together.
As for bedtimes - one slept really well, the other visited us after bedtime for any excuse and even took to sleeping on the floor in his bedroom doorway. We just sent him back up to bed with the least fuss or attention - but persistence is paramount.
Happily all that is behind us now - our boys are 8 & 11 years old.

My son has a problem called "selective hearing". I had it as a child, and I'm sure my parents did too!! If you are not familiar with this problem it is children hearing what they want to hear... as an example, I have to repeat myself to my son (age 11) to get in teh shower about 4 times at night, but I only have to tell him once there is Ice cream in the freezer...
Our solution is basically for every time I have to repeat myself, he gets a "demerit" and then at the end of the week the "demerits" come off from his fun time. So if he has 10 demerits, he has to spend 10 minutes cleaning the bathroom..
It really hasn't helped, but my bathroom is spottless!!

Yes, they're creating a lot of problems & additionally, it is like playing games with lives of millions of poors by spending huge amount of money without caring about poorest living in hutment colonies, sleeping on pavements, footpaths & in villages poors commiting suicide en masse, no 'SIDDHI MAN' is able to help them by so called by 'siddhis'. In India, > 80 % houses in villages have no toilets & proper bathrooms too, particularly ladies face worst situations. In early morning before dawn, if any rail enters any Indian city, the passengers near the window can see people in rows abt 5 feet apart sitting with a can of tin, or a lota or a bottle filled with water excreting sewage. In Mumbai city, this scene is very common all along whole local railway line of abt 170 kms of all routes combined. Dharavi is never shown to any foreigner, I've seen > 100 times till 9 years ago.

Where to begin... hmm mine has a hard time waking up and making him use the bathroom and brush his teeth. We have to make it a race, like I will wake him up and say I bet I can beat you to the potty and I know I will beat you brushing my teeth. Same with getting dressed, he and his father will race to get dressed 1st and ofcourse hubby always lets Addison win. But this is the only way to get him motivated in the morning. Let when it is time to eat.. well I try my best, he is on ADHD medicine and I have to feed him something..even though they serve him breakfast at school. I am just afraid he will not eat at school after the medicine kicks in. So it is just about everything if he is racing.. then he is not dressing, brushing, or eating.

Failure to instill self-respect or respect for others in a child. This is learned behaviour from certain parents. The parents have little self-respect or respect for others, and the children acquire the same disregard. This frequenttly gets labelled 'ADHD' but is, in fact, plain old fashioned bad behaviour and the result of poor parenting.

Picky eating would be a big thing in our home. We always offer healthy foods every day but my son always protests over veggies and fruit. So that is tough. I try to sneak it in to drinks or muffins so at least he is getting something.
