I would argue that there is a need for both of these people.

Jesus is a good guide for "big picture" guidance through life. The golden rule -- love thy neighbor as yourself -- is a good principle for anyone, whether they are religious or not.

Oprah exposes us to some good charity causes and good books. I don't think anyone looks to her for guidance on how to live their life.

I was thinking that same thing after the superbowl, watching all those people cheering and crying. I asked my husband what the world would be like if all those people were cheering and crying because of Jesus. The world wouldnt be so sinful and sinfilled! People would look to Jesus Not someone of the world. I think Oprah is a good person but she is not God.

Well when I was very young people did not air their private family buisness in this way, instead they prayed about their problems and even if the prayer was not answered in the way they wished at least they kept their dignity intact.
Oprah is no better placed that you or me to try to be a tv savior,in fact she is afflicted with the spirit of this world that Jesus overcame and condemned, she seems to care so much while in front of the cameras, but this is her bread and butter, that keeps her in luxury,I wonder if she would give up her opulate lifestyle and go do what Mother Teresa did, what do you think?

because Jesus's reaction will continuously be unknown. Oprah is in a position to provide an answer(even if its maximum acceptable or no longer) there is an really answer. yet why are those human beings searching for Oprah to respond to their existence questions for them? i imagine as a change ppl favor to really carry out somewhat self reflecting to get some solid solutions.

To the degree that people like Oprah can espouse and promote practical steps for certain (small) problems, the odds are you'd do better with her than with prayer. Of course you'd also do even better if you consulted a professional.

The real problem is to pretend that prayer is a way of having wishes granted. No only is it silly, it may also prevent you from taking effective steps to deal with your problems.

I believe in the power of prayer and a collective world conciousness that reflects that. Interesting question. Oprah surely is not Jesus and is not answering the prayer of the world.

Oprah's much more likely to give them a nice new car.

Oprah won't make any money and so will other talk-show/self-help shows.

people just don't like freebies that's why they reject the wonderful idea of christianity...so sad.

It would be nice if people would open up to God the way they do to a celebrity. The world would be so much better if we placed our faith in Our Creator, instead of in His creation.

May God Bless you.

They would have more problems which would give them more reasons to pray. It's a vicious cycle
