In H.G. Well's sci-fi novel "War of the Worlds", the invading alien martians wreaked havoc in Woking, razing the town to the ground.

Last time I visited, the town planners had replaced the wreckage with the most hideous architectural mish-mash imaginable!

I simply ask - what is the lesser of these two evils? Destruction by Martians? or destruction by town planners?

The town planners because the martians made a worse mess of things in other parts of the world.

Clearly the answer is destruction by Martians b/c once you dead, that's it. Destruction by town planners leads to a hellish afterlife full of increased taxation and exurban sprawl.

I'd agree about Woking, it is rather Concrete Cowish...although of course you could then just move.
