I really want to move out of this cold depressing state and move somewhere warm like Califonia. But most of my family is here in Michigan. The economy is real bad here, it takes months to find a job. But I'm afraid I would get so home sick not being able to see my family whenever I want. Granted were not a large family but I am close to them. I don't no what to do? Anyone been in a similar situation?

i live in michigan also. i was in the same position you are in, and i packed up and went to the military. whenever i came home for a visit though, it was not the same. after i got out, i moved back to michigan, and ya know what, we have it pretty good here. so basically, be careful what you wish for, it may just come true. california is very, very expensive. why don't you try someplace a bit closer like chicago? if it does not work you can move back home. good luck with whatever you decide. what part of michigan are you from?

You should do what makes you happy. Ironically, my husband and I left FL about 8 months ago because he got a promotion in another state. Being in Indiana is actually a step up for his career. He couldn't achieve his career goals in FL. Just because it may be warmer somewhere doesn't mean the grass is always greener on the other side. I would do some research and see where the best place for you would be. If you are in a career that is booming in another state, I would tell you to go for it. It's hard living away from family & friends (all of ours are in FL currently) but we have email, phone and we usually visit once a year. It's hard, but it does give you that state of independence. If you want to move, do it while you are young and can be out on your own in the world. There is so much out there to see! Good luck!

Why not move to a warm place for the winter months and come back for the other warmer seasons in Michigan. We had friends that moved to the Florida Keys every Nov. and came back in the spring (until they settled down with kids) They worked in the restaurant and construction field in both places and it kept them working year round. It would at least give you the best of both situations. Family and warm weather.

Just move and forge out on your own if you want the independence. You can always come back and visit so the time you do spend with them is precious.
