My husband of 12 1/2 years has learned to eat a few new things, however, he is still pretty limited. He will eat potatoes, green beans and corn. As far as meats go, beef, chicken and pork. We have 3 children who are willing to try new things but are pretty set in liking just the basics too. When serving dinner I try to do two green veggies, green beans for husband and something else for the rest of us. After cooking dinner almost every night for what seems like forever, I would love to try some new things that everyone might like. All help appreciated!

I wouldn't go to all of that work. I have been through it. There are 2 choices here. #1. Eat what is put in front of you, or don't eat at all. #2. Make your own dinner. There is NO reason for you to have to be a restaurant, and have a dinner menu. THEN, make them do their own dishes.

You didn't mention if you cook on the grill, so this may not apply. But if you do grill, there's a cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com that may help. You can enter various items (the favorite of each of your picky eaters), and it will calculate, coordinate and give you exact instructions on how to grill steaks, burgers, chicken breasts, pork chops, etc. so that they all come off the grill at the same time, cooked just the way you want them.

It's also a great way to get your kids involved in planning dinner.

Try hiding vegetables in a casserole, or putting small pieces of chopped cauliflower into macaroni and cheese. Or making a vegetable soup with some type of meat, then blending it so no one can tell what is really there (but be careful because sometimes the color can become very unappetizing and no one will want to try the soup). I have a friend who grates up carrot and puts it into his tomato sauce. I had no idea it was in there until he told me. Whenever you make mashed potatoes add another starchy, white vegetable like cauliflower or turnip. Even just adding a salad with dinner, and slowly adding a variety of fresh vegetables to it.

Try disguising the foods they don't want to eat, and after your family starts eating the meal (and hopefully enjoying it) tell them what is in there. There will be no excuse not to eat that vegetable now.

Another way for the children to be more likely to eat vegetables is to have them help you. Make shish kebabs, wooden or metal skewers with an assortment of meat and vegetables, or bring them to the grocery store and ask them to help pick out vegetables for dinner. There are also many assortments of frozen veggie mixes to choose from, so you can pick one with both potatoes and broccoli.

If your husband refuses to eat some foods, explain to him that he is setting a bad example for your children, showing them that it is okay to not eat a variety of foods, and turn things away without giving that food a chance.

I have even heard somewhere that after you put a food in front of a child every day for two weeks the child will be more likely to eat it.

Just remember to keep the kids involved. If they help and see what goes in and know that they helped, all 3 will be more likely to eat the food.

try this it worked for me....I work and go to school full time. I was cooking something different for the 3 of us and got tired of it. So I started cooking one meal for the 3 of us. At first they whinned and refused to eat and I refused to make anything different, so they had 4 choices, eat my food, make their own food, order their own food, or go hungry. After a week they figured it would be easier to eat my food.
