the previous two answers are incorrect u can if u have a dvd burner on ur computer. u would save it to a file then burn to a dvd disc. now since its an older vcr u may have to put it into one with a rca cable hookup on it. if ur computer has a rca thing on it or if like mine has a tv hookup. then u can play it on the old recorder and copy it from the tv. so yes it is doable the other answers are incorrect. i copied a cassette tape to disc in a similar sort of way

putting video onto a dvd on a computer is not the perfect method as video is only a quarter the definition of dvd. the picture you will get is quite bad.
a better way is to buy a cheep dvd/hard-drive machine.
connect your cables to it and record onto the hard drive then record that file back to the dvd.
recording from the video in this way digitises the image and enhances it to near dvd quality and produces a far better picture on playback.

I just bought a device that does exactly that. They are $39 at Costco. It is called a CameraMate VideoSafe. The web site on the package is www.easiestvideoever.com.
Of course you will need a VCR and cables, but this box includes the software to do everything else.

You would have to get some sort of video capture card for your computer with a DVD burner. I am using the Dazzle 150 from Pinnacle Systems. A link to pinnacle's website is:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/Family.htm
The capture device ususally comes with software that will capture the video and burn it to DVD as well.

Try looking on the site for ComputerActive magazine. They had an article on this very subject a while ago.
