Popular means nothing (just some ridiculious social status)
He probably has a better personality and IQ than a popular person anyway.
I am assuming you are at school otherwise his popularity wouldnt be a factor.
If you feel it, say it.
Who cares what anyone else thinks!!

Get him a special gift for Valentines Day that says "I love You', that will give him a big hint & you can see how he reacts to it.
If he seems ok with it then just wait till he is kissing you & tell him.

dont tell him,it will only make your situation more awkward....now you can only speak with him as a friend but dont show your love until he tells you his feeling....well, this is my first-hand experience...hmm,is it useful???
