How's free? The AOL Safety and Security Center is powered by McAfee which turns out isn't as horrible as I thought. Though, I'm using the free McAfee subscription that you get with Comcast high speed. But AOL S&S features antivirus protection from McAfee as well as the McAfee personal firewall and spyware protection as well.

Get it here, http://daol.aol.com/safetycenter

If you are looking for one to pay for then look no farther than Kaspersky Internet Security, http://usa.kaspersky.com/products/internet-security.php

Note, Kaspersky and McAfee are both compatible with Windows Vista, the AOL S&S Center is not, though a version that is will be out soon.

Yeah, I'm not saying McAfee is the best BUT they (through AOL) are the only ones offering a completely free all-in-one protection suite. McAfee isn't bad if you can get it for free like I did through Comcast or even by using the AOL Suite but I certainly WOULD NOT pay for McAfee.

If you want to buy one, go with Kaspersky. I guess I'm just too cheap to actually pay for one.

Definately not McAffee, they are looking for money everytime you turn around. I have heard there are some cheaper solutions out there but couldn't suggest any as I haven't tried them yet. I'm forwarding you some advice I got on one of my group but I would suggest research on your in first. I'm still using McAffee as I have already paid in advance for the next update:

For anyone else reading this, to prevent getting spyware/malware, you should keep your Windows Operating System up to date using Microsoft Update website at http://update. microsoft. com/microsoftupd ate/v6/default. aspx?ln=en- us (or have your computer set to automatically do the updates) and you should also be running a good firewall (I use Sunbelt-Kerio' s personal firewall for $14.95) and also running a good anti-virus (I use AVG's FREE anti-virus) and anti-spyware (I use Windows Defender, FREE from Microsoft). I have used many other firewalls, anti-viruses and anti-spyware over the years but these three work well together running full-time in the background on my computers (WindowsXP Home & Pro versions). Some of the "suites" like those from McAfee and Norton are big-time resource hogs and really slow down most computers. Some of the other anti-spywares, anti-viruses and firewalls also suffer from being resource hogs. Always check out a product before using or buying it since there are many FAKE products that are bigger spyware bugs than what

As for the advice someone eles left "don't switch it on". That is just nuts. Don't switch it on if you want every peice of spyware and other crap running your resources down till you computer hits the breaking point. I hate keeping up with all of the software but it is definately worth the trouble. The only way you should consider not running virus protection or a firewall is if you are never going to go on-line.
