Most of the more interesting placements have a lower age limit, but a gap year is the ideal time to do something like that.

Try VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and charities like World Vision and UNICEF.

There is a book published each year in which small charities and other organisations ask for volunteers for projects all over the world. It's called Voluntary Work Abroad and you can get it in bookshops, or maybe a library would have a copy. I used it to find a place on an archeological dig in France.

it quite feels like a brilliant plan, yet does no longer that's slightly difficult to stroll thoroughly international considering the fact that no longer each and all of the land hundreds are related to eachother??? different than that, i might make some flyers with the information and info on it and post them at places persons are maximum in all probability to be certain (grocery shops, department stores, carwashes, gasoline stations). endure in techniques although that some agencies do no longer enable something yet employer assistance published in the final public view although in spite of in the event that they may well be keen to enable you carry one up that workers might see. stable success and need this helps. by employing the way, what charity are you going to do it for?

YES! do it know while he is young and not a lot of responsibilities. I think after College starts it will get more difficult for him. The Internet is loaded with good charities but it really depends on what he is passionate about... health? literacy? a particular ethnic group? women? children? have him answer these questions and start your search on the Internet. Brazil, Cambodia, South Korea... Good Luck!

Perhaps he should visit Volunteer Match http://www.volunteermatch.org . There are many organizations listed there that he can contact and volunteer for them. Many will cover all his travel and living expenses while serving a volunteer mission.

South Africans are needed in many Caribbean and Latin American areas. We often need help from our South African friends, especially to help us with your citizens having special needs when living (or visiting) in this hemisphere. I hope weather is better now in Johanesburg.

I'd say go to college first - develop some skills to share, then join up with one of the more organized institutions like Peace Corps.

Try the Angel Network run by Opera Winfrey. I am sure that someone in this office will help you or at least point you in the right direction.
