Since Bill Gates donated the fortune he got from computer buyers to a non profit program, shouldn't we be able to take the cost of the computer off our Federal Incometax as a donation?

Sadly, no. In the same vein, an artist can only deduct the price of his art supplies, but Mr. and Mrs. Fat Cat get to deduct the auction price of purchasing the same painting and letting a museum show it for 3 months a year.

Show your appreciation by upgrading to Linux and forego a bloated, hardware-dependent OS like Vista. I know I've spent close to $1,000 following all the "upgrades" to Windows since MS-DOS.
