European tap water isn't going to kill you, but tap water in southern Europe tends to have a higher mineral content, so drinking lots of it could give you an upset stomach. However, if faced with the options of drinking from a Spanish drinking fountain or dehydrating, the former is definately the healthier. Personally I prefer the taste of bottled water anyway.

Most of the residents in their own country drink their tap water. The point is, the country you are in now has different minerals than all the others and that could cause upset stomach for you when you drink water somwere else, since you are not used to it.
If you only go for a week or two, buy bottled water but if you intend to stay longer, take the risk of few days upset stomach until you get used to it.

Mostly OK. Best bet is to go into a local supermarket.
If they sell bottled water in 5 litre containers and have a whole row of them,(and its cheap) then chances are you shouldnt drink the tap water.

Mains water is safe to drink in all of the European Union.

Those writing about Spain are just xenophobes.

There are cases of mains water being poisonous in the UK but this has resulted from accidents at the water works.
( e.g. Milngavie , near Glasgow for 2 or 3 days umpteen years ago).

Depends where you are. You can't drink all the tap water in the UK (seen as that's the category you put the question in). I was in the south of England and we had to drink bottled water. Although it may have just been a temporary thing. If you're not sure just buy bottled water, it's not that expensive.

By itself, water is absolutely safe all over Europe; the only issue is a person coming from another continent may not be used to microbes or bacteria which are harmless to people used to them but may have different effect on foreigner, usually... just diuretic, so the effect may be unpleasant, but not dangerous. The same would happen to a European visiting North America.

Thats too broad a question to answer.
You need to say not only the country, but also the town you're enquiring about.

The water's great here in Croatia, particularly Rijeka. Some of the best water you'll get!

London tap water? Water quality varies greatly from country to country and even in county to county. Although the british like to think they have clean water they are top of the league in the EU for river pollution...the best countries for clean water are Germany, Denmark, Ireland and Norway.
But to be sure you should always boil your water.
