Hiccups occur at any age and in utero. Preterm infants spend up to 2.5% of their time hiccupping. Although hiccups occur less frequently with advancing age, intractable hiccups are more common in adult life. Females develop hiccups more frequently during early adulthood than males of the same age.

I rarely get them, I don't think I had them for ten years at least then I've had them twice in the last few years. I've noticed that not only do you get them less frequently but also they are way easier to get rid of. I can generally tighten my throat, take small sips of water and hold my breath and get rid of them. I remember when I was a kid trying every trick in the book and they would just burst out anyway, it took forever to stop them.

I aint had those for a while now I,m 30, but I do have the greatest cure for them, when anybody gets them, ask them "What did they have for breakfast", trust me it works, while they are thinking of what they had, the hiccups stop because the brain is concentrating on something else, try it !!!!!!!! :)

I'm 30 & I get them all the time and what really sucks is even though I keep my mouth shut they still squeak in my throat. It's so annoying. My dog gets the hiccups all the time too!

Funny you should ask this, because lately I have been having hiccups and I haven't had them for years (I am 50!) but I am having intestine troubles, so I think it may have something to do with this.

I get them quite a bit, always have. Im 31. Its your diaphragm twitching due to irritation so isuppose its like anything else that some people are prone to. Actually when i think about it my mam gets them a lot and my sister so maybe its hereditary?
I read about a man who had them for 30 or 40 years!!! Imagine that!!
