Or maybe even in prisons at night to calm peoples nerves? There would be beefs, but the majority rules in a democracy. And how much rights do prisoners have after they
commit crimes against society anyway? Shouldn't rehabilitation be mandatory in prisons, for their benefit as well?

In prisons.....That sounds like a huge waste of tax money.

Actually music and nature sounds have been found to have a positive influence for those who are ill. In prison populations, it would probably have the same affect.

Some rights are taken away - for example, a convicted felon can no longer vote.

I think the way we run our prisons needs a major overhaul. Interaction with other prisoners should be limited and very closely monitored. Every word spoken or written should be monitored (except when protected by law). Education should be allowed, but limited - for example, a car thief should not be allowed to take auto shop - a corporate thief should not be allowed to attain a degree in business (that would be like adding gasoline to a fire). Rehab should be offered, but not mandated, except in extreme cases. All comforts and rights should be earned through good behavior, etc. Food should be wholesome and healthy, should not conflict with one's beliefs (a vegetarian should not be forced to eat meat, a Muslim should not be forced to eat pork). But food should not be a four star dining experience. Better behavior - better food. Better behavior - more privileges. T.V. programming should be limited and monitored - no violent shows allowed - period. Music should be monitored - no music that promotes violence, bigotry, hatred, greed, etc., should be allowed.

Putting people in prisons without doing anything to reform them is a crime.

Emphasis should be on reforming and rehabilitating him by the time he leaves prison rather than on punishment. So that he does not commit crime again.

Frustrated & Stressed out people commit more crimes than cool people.

Yoga and meditation helps in removing it out of the person.

Music too is of some help.

If someone is termally ill, do what they want you to do. That kind of music does nothing but iritate me. So I don't think it would be the thing to do for prisoners. They chose to do what got them in there. Sometimes, I think they have it better than a lot of people who are out here trying to make an honest living.

Did you ever try to rehabilitate someone who didn't want to be rehabilitated? That's a real can of worms.

Yes always. Have you ever tried. when you are agitated in mind, to just get up go around the garden, and walk around just the compound of your house hearing the chirping of the birds, looking at the blueness of the sky, the fluttering of the dragon flies wings, the newly sown seeds germinating, the last days rain giving out the great smell of the earth, just walk around for half an hour come back back sit from where you have left, all the orchestras in the world cannot give that kind of peace of mind. I enjoy it. Always. Go take a deep breathe. The story of the modern day concrete jungle, I once heard in one of the most eminent physicians in Ayurveda treating a lady for headache she was suffering for many many years. Apparently the lady was healthy in all other respects except for this headache. After careful examination, the Vaidya (Doctor in Ayurveda) took a earthen pot, scratched the inner portion of the pot for sometime, put few drops of water in it, made a paste, touched the paste with his little finger and applied it on her tongue. She never had the headache after that. She was asked to walk in barefoot on the ground for some time at least in a day. The reason being, for many many years her body never had contact with the earth. It should be noted, not only the sense of hearing, seeing and taste caters to the body, but the sense of touch(feeling) also caters to the health and well being of the body. So one should touch the flowers and trees, touch the ground, touch and feel what ever possible alongwith sense of smell, seeing and hearing the nature to soothe oneself. Smile thank you for the question.

No body is born evil . We just have to find out the good thing in a bad person. Highlight that and this way rehabilitation is automatically done. No doubt that music is something which no body can ignore but it depends upon the mood, time and obviously the taste.

This might sound cruel to some people and I will apologize right now if I offend anyone, but they are not dead yet! They feel enough sadness, don't you think that that would add to the feeling? Instead I would recommend more upbeat things. I know if it was me I would want to have happiness surrounding me and live on the edge, than to lay around listening to something that is going to depress me in my final days or hours.

It's never a good idea to presume what a captive audience will want to hear, it would be a form of torture for many...bad idea.

you try and play elevator music in prison and I predict a riot. Hell, _I_ would riot with them.
