I have a fourteen month old white fluffy jack R miniture he is really cute. Some friends of ours wish to mate him with their *****, not sure what breed she is but she is slightly taller than the dog. They had not met untill a couple of days ago and we tried to mate them. But as much as my dog tried he could not get locked on, and his legs (bless him) did not seem long enough to keep both paws on the floor for long, he managed about ten secs a time maybe some tries were longer. We tried for two hours the first day and one hour yesterday, is he to young, or did we not leave them for long enough but he seemed knackered after so long trying. Does anyone have any advice on how to mate them, should we wait another six months when he is more mature or just give up. I am not sure if it because they did not know eachother long enough and because of their ages were slightly immiature (the ***** is 2 yrs). We are not mating them for buisiness reasons just privately.

Most dogs during there first time find it very hard as they dont know what to do,breeders always advice that if you have a first time dog then not to use a maiden ***** aswell as both having no knowdledge can get a bit frustrated and anxious about the situation.First time bitches are usually taken to an expeirienced stud dog.Was the ***** in question at the right stage of her heat to allow your male to mount her? It's between the 11th-14th day of her heat that she will actually allow a dog to mount her. It's adviceable to let the dogs have a little play before hand and its easier if the 2 dogs already know each other. Not all dogs will tie or lock during a mating and this doesn't mean the ***** isn't pregnent.Dont try for hours on end with your dogs as this will tire both dogs out and make them more uninterested in each other, just let nature take it's course and if there is no succesful mating this time, then thats the way it is.Good luck.

This is a subject of many breeder's laughter. How does one breed a smaller dog with a larger dog. First, your dog may be willing but he is inexperienced so he loses out in enginuity. The female dog is acting as her name implies - she's not helping him any. She may not feel impressed with him or in heat enough to help.

Believe me, if both parties wanted the same thing - they would find a way. Instead of trying to mate them, put them on play dates. They will become their own pack and then the sparks will fly.

Or don't you believe in puppy love?

Get her spayed ASAP.. even if you must go thru another vet. Odds are if your vet is too busy to get a spay in, he will be too busy for a cecarian.. which small dogs often need. Because your dog is young and not done growing and developing, a pregnancy is also quite dangerous for her.

I once witnesses a york shire terrier on a greyhound female while she was lying, still a little traumatized. But if he did, weird pupps were born eeeek.

Firstly, there is no such thing as a Miniature Jack Russell & they certainly shouldn't have fluffy coats!
Have a read of this before you continue trying to get a mating:

and of this:

Different breed but the principles are the same.
