If I bought a pair of Onkyo speakers then would lets say a Sony Reciever be able to connect to the Onkyo Speakers? If not then can only certain Onkyo speakers be able to connect to certain Onkyo Recievers?

You usually can use different brands of speakers with different brands of receivers. However, proprietary brands like Bose may limit your options. You should be able to run Onkyo speakers with a Sony Receiver and vice-versa. The only stipulation is that you check the impedance ratings of the speakers to make sure the receiver will be able to handle them correctly.

You should have no problem, double check the all the spec on the back of the speak (ie 8ohm's, vs 4 ohm's). Most Sony amps have the adjustment that you can change between 4 and 8 ohm's.

The only problem that you can run into,is that lower end Sony surround packs are hard wired from the powered amp into the speaker.

He's right! You've gotta match your "OHMS"...If the "ohms" on your SPEAKERS are LOWER than the "ohms" on your RECEIVER you can SERIOUSLY damage your receiver.
