Replace the battery if its 5 years old. Make sure the battery cable connections are clean and tight when you install the new battery. Then measure across the battery terminals with the engine idling. If you measure less than 13.5 Volts DC using a Digital Multimeter, you probably have a charging problem and need to have your alternator checked at an auto store.

A quick and easy (also free) way is to take it to Auto Zone. They will have a device that will check what is causing the Check Engine light to come on. Plus they can tell you if your battery or alternator needs replacing....that kinda sounds like what it is.

If not, the device will spit out a code and tell you that you need a sensor or something to that effect.

I don't know where you live but in Texas you can take it to a place that has machine that hooks up to your alternator and battery that will tell what is wrong with your vehicle. It cost $40.00. Inexpensive way to see what's wrong.
