To prepare or cook your junk food: This be dangerous so wear a rubberized suit, goggles & do the following: An easy demonstration of a junk food manner of preparation:

Using a small portable deep fryer: fry some thinly sliced peeled potatoes. Coat them with a gluten (wheat flour like McDonalds uses to get them crispy) & toss in there until turn golden brown. Serve them with a side of extra saturated fat gravy.

Or fry some donuts: Add 12 tablespoons of sugar to a pound of all purpose dough. Fry until brown & season with a sugar glaze (glaze: 3 cups sugar to 1 &1/2 water whipped). Serve with side of 8 oz . of water + added 8 tablespoons of sugar (the amount in one soda), & add 3 tablespoons corn syrup & add some food coloring (any color).

Anything you read the back of the package and see the item has not hardly any nutrition: like no potassium or vitamins C or A. You Find That they are mainly consist of high fats & sugars (regardless of their amount of protein) be junk for sure !

Anything with hydrogenated oil & saturated fat exceeding the vitamin content.
Claims of high protein does not ensure they're healthy as does having a vitamin or two !

Scientists have described junk food as "non-nutrient air". A food be non-nutrient when the item has only sugar, fat or salt & no vitamins. Junk food has no balance of the amounts of fats as compared to nutrients & eating an exclusive diet of such inevitably will create bodily imbalance such as: pimples, and now more widespread be an early onset of diabetes.

Imbalanced edibles (non-nutrient) = Junk = acidic = body imbalance = dry skin, pimples, arthritis can be some of the most common side effects of junk.

"Saturated" fats or "Hydrogenated" oils are harmful since they become acidic to body.
Junk = more than 2 grams of saturated fat per tablespoon !

Although human bodies run on sugar (like fruit & 100% fruit juice as the "universal energy" excess sugars from cane that are processed into sugar (cane plant has nutrients but processing removes these leaving only acidic sugar). Molasses or treacle be a burned sugar leaving a burned brown residue that has carcinogens.
Non fruit sourced sugars are harmful since it be acidic to blood, bone, body & teeth.

Although the human body needs salt, salts naturally found in high amounts in vegetables such as carrots, celery & will suffice the body's needs. Excess iodized salts harmful since raises pressure of blood producing strokes, heart attacks.

Junk food tends to be very popular among teens; as a result from the schools do not place effort into offering more than mainstream snack machines for children & teens.

Sure ways to find junk; signs a food has a higher chance of be being junk:

1. Dipped in starches, gluten & over fried in an excess oil to add flavor.

2. Many junk foods have bright colors & have additives like extreme food coloring (sport drinks) or say a fake orange cheese coating.

3. In small bags and/or labeled: "for on the go".

4. Most cake & cookie like items found in your school snack machine like: Hohos, Twinkie, Donuts.

5. Sadly Most cereals especially puffed are junk regardless of brand since they are pure sugar; with no vitamins or minerals, except organic brands.

6. ALL most popular candy bars.

7. Sadly ALL Ice cream. But frozen yogurt can have less sugar and be alright.

Viewed by nutritionist as "Worst modern day Junk Food major contributors": All sodas (ALL use extreme amounts of sugar) & some canned, bottled teas./ Doritoes, Pringles & Many chips (high amounts of salt)./

Convenience foods and place find them: Nachos & liquid cheese - skating rinks/ Hotdogs or Chilli dogs (loaded with Nitrates; these reduce nutrient absorption & may give headaches) - baseball, football parks.

To numerous to list but here are some of the worst Travel Food Stops: entre'e stops: McDonalds (highest & absurd amounts of pork fat)./ sweet stops: Krispy Kreme (highest sugar of ANY donut), Dunkin donuts, Cinnabon.

Dipped in starches, gluten & over fried in an excess oil to add flavor: Kentucky Fried Chicken, French fries.

Super Aerated junk: cheese puffs. Other junk: party mixes, HandySnax cheese.

Margerines & butters (Ghee be a safest type butter available from Indian grocers & said not be acidic but healing!).

Also containing Ingredients: caramel, lard, mayonnaise.

Hard candies. chewy candies ("Starburst" actually has small amounts of animal fat), most chocolates (except low sugar high cocoa ones).

Popular brands that have sold junk food throughout the recent decades and that very popular today are:
Kraft, Oscar Mayer, Post, Nabisco, Nestlea, Kool-Aid, Hersheys, Mars Co....to name a few.

child targeted junk: "Lunchables", "Handi-Snacks" spreadable Cheese Crackers, GoGurt.

Technically scientist have said sweeteners like sweet & low are junk since only promote bad habits of eating more junk and producing spoiled taste for junk. Whereas subtracts from fruit would be best
Also considered to be junk: "GoGurt" (higher sugar) Some yogurt can be alright; but many brands target children & up the sugar to extremes.

I agree Potato chips or sticks are not junk sometimes (low sodium, skin left on has a vitamin).

Coffee can become a junk if misused or too frequent due to acidic & has no nutrients.
Peanut butters not. Some jams & preserves are not; but jelly's tend to be.

Popcorn I don't view as junk if homemade then thats not salty & has nutrition value.
Cracker packs can have more nutrition than other snack choices.

I do not see many burgers or hot-dogs as junk if from a non chain restaurant & steamed, grilled ! If their labeling checks out to be non saturated fat; since they are more near & akin to nutrient filled "real" food. So I don't knock them.

Main thing be moderation ! But corporations do target adolescents !

Anything that is deep fat fried, greasy, and/or cooked in oil. Salty foods are also considered 'junk'. For non-saturated junk foods the main offenders are those of high sugar levels. It's just any food that the body doesn't really need.

Most junk food is already prepared, that's what makes it junk. Highly processed foods are not good for you. As far as making it, i guess make sure it includes animal byproducts, white sugar or corn syrup, and lots of fat.
