This is what I posted to a similar question: please add your own comments, both religious and non.

Maybe instead, you should respect people's beliefs for once and only focus on your own. That's why our world cannot move forward, cause too many people are caught up on religious things that have no real meaning to the state of the earth. I don't care about god right now, I care about new energy sources so my children will have a safe and healthy place to grow up. I don't care about heaven, I care about new leaders that will LEAD the countries and not bring them down. I don't care about hell, I care about health care for future generations and my own. Worry about what's happening right now rather than worry about your soul in heaven.

Atheists aren't the ones starting wars over god. You're the ones who are trying to brainwash our children into worshipping someone that would allow such atrocities to be committed in his name.

I don't have any children either, Princess. But one day I might. And one day you might too. Do you want them to live horrible, miserable lives with no health care and no education and no resources? I wouldn't.

Really the only argument i'm getting from the religious people is "it's god's plan and he'll do something about it." So you just want to sit back and have someone else do all the work, and no matter who does it, then you'll consider it "God's plan" as long as you don't have to lift a finger. Wonderful.

People want to be right. They've invested their lives, their social network and everything they have into something and they damn well want some interests. It's like economics and social engineering put together in one huge, uncouth unison of wrong and wrong. So they want to be right and they want others to tell them they're right, it's about being affirmed.
People also forget that we got free will. God's not at the rudder anymore, he's just waitin' for us to come home so we can tell him about the ****** up ride we've been on. We make our own decisions and have our own fates in our hands, something people need to realize now more than ever. They keep talking about sin and forget that the original sin, the one we were forgiven for by Jesus' dying, was that we became masters of our own will, we grew beyond God's grasp and realized our own potential. There is no plan beyond that of man, because man is his own master and ultimately responsible for his own actions. The people doing humanitary work, as well as the priest raping choir-boys. Either ends of the spectrum is because we choose what to do with our lives ourselves.
So ultimately, people worry about making others adhere to their beliefs, because they choose to put everything they have into what others say they should, they give up their free will and forget about it and then they try to shift the blame onto God in a most cowardly patricide. Atheists aren't the ones trying to kill God, Christians are doing a marvelous job themselves by continually wiping their sins off on him.

I agree with you but like you said, some people priorities are different than yours. I don't have any children so the things you mentioned aren't really on my mind. Christians are taught that this life doesn't matter. Hence the talk of Heaven, etc. I personally don't want to hear about gloom & doom either. If someone preaches to you, just walk off. That's what I do.

There's no respect of others beliefs. THAT is the real imaginary belief. People need to make sure all their ducks are in a row before they decide to "save" others.

Edit: Just like you said, I worry about the here & now. That is all I can do. It would be lovely if the world were a safer place for children to grow up in. I do my part not to add to the madness and that's all I can do. Religion isn't the reason for wars. Religion is man made. God is God. Totally different. People who kill or start wars in God's name don't care about God or any message. It's an excuse to kill people wrapped up in the word religion or God. It's a lame rationalization. If the devil was viewed upon as holy by the masses, those same people would kill & start wars in the devil's name. Religion is man's way of scaring people. God isn't scary. Human beings are the ones that are scary. I don't blame God for wars, etc. Those are human choices.

Since a Christian believes that there is a God, and that there is a hell, they are compelled by their religion, which requires them to love others, to act on that believe.

It would be like waking up and seeing your neighbors house on fire, and them still sleeping in their bedroom unaware. You would be compelled to warn them about the danger. If you didn't, you will bear some of the responsibility for their loss, injure or death.

As a Christian, we honestly believe that God is there to help you. And disaster awaits you if not warned. So what choice do we have by to act in love towards you?

But you seem to have the idea that Christians do not care about things like alternative energy, helath care, or good leaders. They are some of the most active people in the area of environmentalism (God put us in charge of protecting this world) and politics. Their are Christians working in the area of alternative fuels, etc. Do not be surprised if the person who finally finds a solution is a Christian. He has any unfair advantage - he can get the solution from God.

You do realize that the Christian church was the organization that began the modern hosptial. That Christians provide more free medical aid around the world then all other organization put together. Even the Red Cross and the Salvation Army where founded as Christian organizations (Salvation Army still is). Health care is a very critical issue to Christians. Christ was a healer, and we are called to be the same.

By pushing religion to nothing but "fire insurance" at the end, you are missing so much of what it has to offer. Guidance in the everyday decisions of life. A strength to lean on when life decides to try to knock you out. A friend who is always there when needed. Someone to whom you can trust your children, grandchildren, and the future of their world.

My opinion is probably neither new nor unique, but I see it as a matter of zeal and intolerance.

People are basically "hard wired" to ask questions and seek answers about life, death, meaning, etc. We seek "satisfaction" in our answers, and some people just get off so intensely on conventional spirituality that they feel they have to share their joy with others.

That would be one thing, but it goes beyond that, to the point that they feel so "connected" to their new found truth that they begin "judging" others (oh, they say they're not judging, but they most certainly are).

What was in the beginning joy then becomes didacticism and goes way beyond "witnessing." People believe that their Lord sanctions their getting right up in people's faces and being obnoxious and aggressive.

You either agree to see things their way, or it's the highway to Hell for you, buddy.

That's where the intolerance comes in. They cannot entertain any other belief, opinion or philosophy than their own.

But, this applies to some atheists, as well.

Why some people cannot be content to just share their opinion and leave it at that is beyond me.

Philosophical "trench warfare" is stupid and pointless.

But if you don't worry now about it when will you. And after you find new energy sources won't something else come up that needs our attention. Then you will never get around to finding out if there is a God and a heaven or hell. And actually most religions support looking into those things and helping people so i a way religion helps us sometimes move forward. And what you do now is what affects you for all eternity. This world will fade. But i do respect what you are saying it is important to fix the problems we have, but do so while living our life for our "next life" so to speak.

I am not worried about my soul in heaven.
I would only worry about that if I was not sure that I was going to heaven.

However, I worry about what is going on in this country, and how the leaders only fight over it and get nothing done, while the condition gets worse.

Since Muhammad, Muslims have been killing Jews and Christians, and taking over the countries that once were Christian.
They have been opposed in the past with success for a time, but they still are the majority in the countries that once were Christian.
Turkey was a Christian country and north Africa was Christian as well, but they are now all Muslim.
Why does that bother me?
It is because they were taken over by force, by the use of violence.
When will they take over the U.K. or the U.S. by violence?

Yathrib was a Jewish settlement until Muhammad, now it is Medina a holy city of Islam.
Jews were slaughtered in this conquest to take away their city.

They also took over the holy mountain in Israel during the disbursement of the Jews from Israel.
This holy mountain is where Solomon's temple used to be located.
Now, their temple, The Dome of the Rock Mosque, sits on the holy mountain in Jerusalem and they kill Jews that come close to the mountain top.

If you live in the U.S. I think you should worry about your children being able to play outside or walk home from school without being abducted.
I think you should be worried about terrorism on your own soil since we have foiled several plots, and the day may come that we don't foil a plot that will kill thousands again.

If you are not worried about you unbelief, who am I to worry about it, I have never met you.

If I'm in a boat and I see someone drowning I WILL throw them a life preserver. It's my job as a human being.
I believe Jesus is "The way the truth and the life" and "no one comes to the father except through me". I WILL tell people about Jesus and his love. It's my job as spirit. I am both flesh and spirit.
Should I berate people with the gospel? No. Do I beat them over the head with a bible? That's doesn't work either. My job is to tell them and let God do the rest. The great commission;
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."(NIV)

I totally agree with you!

GWB is so busy trying to win his war & sacrificing so many young Americans when he should be signing the Kyoto protocol & looking after his own people.

There is nothing worse than ppl trying to shove their religious beliefs down your throat. It's bad enough here on YA without experiencing it in real life.

I'm so grateful I don't experience some of the crap you guys do in America. I really do feel for you.

I don't feel the need to convert ppl or make them believe what I do. Live & let live. Ppl are able to make their own decisions & should be taking responsibility for themselves.

I agree with you. There is no need to press religion on people who do not share your particular view of the world. People should accept and respect other people's beliefs and move on. Getting caught up in disagreements and battles about religion isn't going to get us anywhere. We need to focus on more important things. I think dwelling on religion and beliefs is a waste of time.

regrettably, indoctrination has created a sort of superiority complicated in many faiths. i've got faith that a merciful and loving writer isn't overly questioning approximately particular names and wording as much as with the spirituality of a man or woman CJ: relatively Jesus stated hell is eternal separation from the daddy and that such separation may be torment. That diffused distinction might nicely be a large distinction in the religious reason of the message, do no longer you think of? famous man or woman: in case you have a "religious stability" - would not it stick to that it won't be able to polluted? i've got faith faith is - nicely, it relatively is faith. no you may actually touch my faith. to no longer say I even have all the solutions- I in all probability have extra questions than solutions. Discussions with others of differing perspectives is how I learn and strengthen spiritually. yet my faith is untouchable and that i haven't any issue of it being "polluted"
