should i continue to participate there eventhough i feel like it is not for me?? i don't want to embarrass my friend who invited me(well, he didn't told me that it was a religious group meeting, he just asked me to come) but i don't feel like it is the right place for me.

Be polite but firm. You can say that other commitments keep you from attending.

Just politely tell them that you do not share their beliefs. You should not be expected to be forced to believe in something you do not agree with.

Visiting isn't joining. Don't go back. Your friend should understand if he is a true friend.
