Linseed oil is generally used.

I tend to go for the thinner too much for my own good. But really, if you need to build up, use linseed oil. Poppy oil is also good, but it may give the picture a little bit of a yellow tinge as it ages.

To be honest, I don't really bother with adding more oil to the paint. It's good as is.
