I give my dogs carrot sticks. They are good for their teeth. I also give them apple slices on occassion. Not much else.

My dogs LOVE carrots. Just break up some of the baby carrots and let him have them. He will love them. My older dog also likes zuccini and squash. Peanut butter (not a fruit or veggi I know) is always a treat for a dog. It goes great inside of a Kong ball. Something my dog really like is ice as well. I will usually drop a cube or two when I am getting some just so he can chew on it. My puppy really loved ice when he was teething, but my 3 year old also likes it just because it is cold and crunchy. As was said, avoid grapes, onions, obviously chocolate, and anything too strong that may upset his stomache (hence the citrus). Just some ideas.

I heard about these nutcases who spout that everyone and everything can be vegetarian. They even go as far as feed their dogs and cats tofu and other meat substitues. NOT!!! Your dog is a predator and does not have the digestive tract to handle greens. Dogs eat carrots but remember that they are loaded with Vitamin A - which is nonsoluble and will cause an overdose if unchecked. Dogs will also eat chocolate - bad way to die for a dog. Heck, humans would eat arsenic if it tasted good.

Please treat your animal friends with respect and feed them what nature has intended - that is meat products. Why not a normal Ol' Roy biscuit instead?

Note: Most pet foods now a days use corn as a meat substitute - this is not good for a dog/cat onlt good for cheaper pet food and more profits for the pet food maker. It produces FAT pets with high cholesteral. Then you have to put your pet on a diet... Look at the ingredients of your pet food and try to find the one with at least two meat products at the front of the list.

Pleae check up on tri-glycerides - these are pesky byproducts of a veggie lifestyle where one misses out on the B-Complex and Folic Acid necessary for keeping blood pressure and cholesteral in check. By trying to make your dog go veggie you better remember the vitamins. Good luck in making your pet take them...

Meat tastes so much better.

OH... refer to my earlier answer - don't. LOL. Some people give baby carrots because they are sweet but my dogs hate them. Some will eat lettuce, other apples etc. Just watch for peels (grapes) and refrain from things w/ acid - lemons oranges etc.

Go for the liver treats. The dogs like them much better.

Burns make a treat called Ocean Bites. They are made from 100% dryed fish. They are very crunchy & clean their teeth a treat. You can order them direct from the burns website.

Fruits and vegetables are a great healthy snack for dogs. Carrots are great, and apples or bananas. A few things to avoid are raw potatoes (you can give them to him cooked), onion, and raisins. Those are all bad for dogs--although I'm not sure my dog would eat onions if we offered them to him.

Here's some info about dog food:

I will give green beans and carrots for low-value treats. I make a puree of steamed broccoli and dandelion greens to mix in with their food -
Avoid onions totally. They are poisonous to dogs!

anything but grapes/raisins, citrus, and onions. He can have most everything else. If he won't eat the veg. out of your hand then you can cook them up in a dog stew. Here is a web site that will help. http://www.i-love-dogs.com/dog-food-recipes.html

Why give your dog fruit and veggies when dog treats are available? Thats something I never figured out.

I know someone that gives their dog baby carrots and he seems to do good with them. I wouldnt give anything with citrus.
