I am extremely phobic and have been for 50yrs. As you can imagine, my teeth are now in a very bad way and I need a lot of treatment.I really need help. Can anyone advise where I should go please? I am terrified of even the thought of going to a dentist, and even more so now that they will not give a general anaesthetic.

Does anyone know of anywhere that specialises in phobic patients?

Why not treat the phobia first? Hypnotherapy & NLP are very effective, and fast acting. You may only need one session.

I have sent you a link of registered practioners in Wales, then you can maybe find one near you, give them a call and they can help you be free of your phobia. Try to find one who is trained in NLP as well as hypnotherapy - and one who when you talk to them on the phone you like the sound of them!

Good luck!

I am exactly the same as you, I didn't go for 35 years, I was tied to the dentist's chair with leather straps when I was a child and have never got over it. I go now every 6 months I had hypnosis but was still scared. The dentist gave me some pills to calm me down. What you have to think of is the feeling of elation when you come out after treatment. I think people think I'm going mad when I come out I want to shout and scream look I've done it again, everything now is painless. Good luck to you you've climbed the first hurdle telling people on Yahoo.

Nowadays it is possible for a local anasthetic to put over the area where the needle goes in so you do not feel a thing. The only thing to worry about is exhaustion sitting in the seat.

You can contact me I may be able to recommend a really good dentist, very understanding and the surgery has a very relaxed, family-type environment.
