as we age, our immune systems age as well-which means they become more compromised and make it easier for us to get sick.

in addition, some older people have pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, cancers, respiratory diseases that are already occupying our immune systems efforts to keep them healthy, so when an illness such as measles attempts to invade their bodies-their immune system isn't strong enough to fight it off.

children have a very strong immune system b/c they are exposed to so many germs on a regular basis due to being around other children and getting into things like mud, trash, etc (the icky stuff that adults know not to touch!!)

Because they are older and immune system is not as active as it was when they were young.
